Course Description

This course covers theory, operation, diagnosis, maintenance, and overhaul of the clutch, standard transmission, standard trans-axles, drive lines, differentials, front-wheel drive units, and four-wheel drive components.

Justification

This course is required for Automotive Service Excellence (A.S.E.) certification and National Automotive Technician Education Foundation (NATEF) accreditation. It is approved by the program advisory committee.

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to safely perform the tasks listed in the current edition of NATEF Certification and Accreditation for Automobile Training Programs.
  2. Students will be able to follow and demonstrate the powerflow through a manual transmission or transaxle.
  3. Students will be able to diagnose and explain the operation of a synchronizer assembly.
  4. Students will understand the operational characteristics of a constant velocity joint.
  5. Students will maintain a clean environment.
