Course Description
Students will learn the theory, principles, operation, components, and servicing of automotive air conditioning and heating systems. This lecture class must be taken concurrently with the lab AUTO 2705.
Justification
This course is required for Automotive Service Excellence (A.S.E.) certification and ASE Education Foundation accreditation. It is approved by the program advisory committee and is a core course for the Automotive and Diesel Technology AAS degree.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to safely perform the tasks listed in the current edition of ASE Education Foundation Certification and Accreditation for Automobile Training Programs.
- Students will learn the theories and principles of refrigeration and their operation in an automotive HVAC system.
- Students will learn the components and operation of the ducting and directional controls in an automotive HVAC system.
- Students will learn the environmental impacts of freon and obtain EPA certification for freon handling.
- Students will learn the appropriate specialized tools and equipment used to diagnose and repair automotive HVAC systems.
