Course Description

This course will introduce students to the many rewarding career and educational opportunities in business. Students will explore the Business Department degree and certificate options available at Snow, as well as future educational and career possibilities. The course is designed to help students connect career interests with educational options and requirements. Guest lecturers will include professionals from industry, as well as representatives from four-year business programs at transfer schools.

Justification

This course is designed to provide students, that are investigating business career options, with the information and advisement they need to pursue a business major and/or career. BUS 1200 is required for students seeking the Associate of Science Business (ASB) degree.

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Students will be able to develop an educational and career pathway plan.
  2. Students will be able to identify a variety of educational and career options in business.
  3. Students will know and apply important concepts of professionalism and social etiquette.

Course Content

Awareness of business degree and certificate tracks at Snow College
Exploration of business degree options at transfer institutions
Discussion of and research on career options in business fields
Opportunity to learn from working professionals who attend the class as guest speakers
Components of professionalism, including personal presentation, appropriate communication strategies, and professional social etiquette techniques
