This course is designed to introduce students to the essential principles and practices of caring for and working with horses. Through a combination of theoretical instruction, practical demonstrations, and hands-on activities, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of horse safety, feeding, anatomy, equipment, riding, and basic horsemanship skills.Students are required to provide their own horse. This course can be taken for credit two times.
The horse industry is a very large and important part of our national, state, and local economies and rural heritage. Utah's horse industry is diverse, involving agriculture, business, sport, entertainment, and recreation, and ranks in the top 10 states for number of horses per capita. Growth in the industry has created a demand for qualified personnel in all of its related fields. This introductory class will provide students with the opportunity to gain skills and knowledge needed to take future equine classes here at Snow College which will be a part of the equine degree and other agriculture degrees. This class can also be used as a recreational riding class for students.
AGBS 1560 is a comprehensive introduction to the fundamentals of horse care and horsemanship. This course is designed to provide students with the essential knowledge and skills necessary for the safe and responsible care of horses, as well as basic riding and handling techniques. Throughout the course, students will engage in theoretical learning, hands-on activities, and demonstrations to deepen their understanding of horse management and horsemanship practices.
