Course Description
This capstone course allows students to complete the last 1-100 hours of the 1600 clock hours mandated by the State of Utah. During this course, students perform advanced procedures and prepare to take the National Interstate Council of State Boards of Cosmetology Licensure Examination (NIC test) and apply for licensure.
Justification
This course provides an opportunity for the student to complete the remaining clock time hours to meet the required 1600 hours before a student can license. Preparation is made during this time for the National Interstate Council of State Boards of Cosmetology Licensure Examination (NIC test).
Student Learning Outcomes
- Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to safely perform the tasks listed in the Candidate Information Bulletin concerning the requirements of the NIC test.
- Students will maintain a clean work environment and follow the proper procedures for safety and infection
control. Students will recognize potential safety hazards and implement accepted methods to mitigate those
hazards.
Course Content
Course objectives will be accomplished by providing students with learning experiences in the following subject areas: -maintaining a clean working environment-hair and scalp analysis -haircutting techniques, using clippers, razor and shears -chemical texture techniques -hair color and bleach applications -hairstyling, including thermal sets-straight razor shaving-facials, and removal of unwanted hair using wax and tweeze -artificial nail applications -first aid techniques for cuts-using the internet to access the Division of Professional Licensing for the State of Utah and the Candidate Information Bulletin.
