Course Description

The Nail Technician program provides the skills needed to work in a beauty or nail salon performing services such as natural nail care, including manicures and pedicures, and nail enhancements.
Instruction also includes sanitation, salon safety, nail, and skin disorders, professional ethics and salon management, and licensing laws and rules. Upon completion of the program, students have the knowledge and skills needed to take the state written and practical examinations required for licensure

Justification

A student taking this course along with TENT 1200, TENT 1600, and TENT 1610 will have the knowledge and skills needed to take the state written and practical examinations required for licensure. The Nail Technology program can be taken alone or as part of the Cosmetology/Barbering program.

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate safe practices related to infection control, chemical products, and electrical equipment
  2. Discuss and learn the history of nail technology.
  3. Demonstrate and understand proper sanitation procedures.
  4. Explain the importance of anatomy and physiology, skin and nail growth and structure, and nail diseases and disorders.
  5. Demonstrate natural nail care, including manicures and pedicures.
  6. Perform proper techniques and application of, nail enhancements.

Course Content

This course will explore the basic anatomy, skin and nail structure and growth, and recognize and prevent infections. You will study the fundamentals of manicures, pedicures, nail tips and wrap application, acrylic(s), gel(s), polish and their applications.Objectives:- Demonstrate safe practices related to infection control, chemical products, and electrical equipment.- Discuss the history of nail technology.- Demonstrate sanitation procedures.- Explain the importance of anatomy and physiology, skin and nail growth and structure, and nail diseases and disorders.- Demonstrate natural nail care, including manicures and pedicures.- Perform proper techniques and application of nail enhancements.
