Course Description

The Suspension and Steering course teaches theory and hands-on instruction on automotive suspension and steering systems while following the program standards set forth by the Automotive Service Excellence Education Foundation at the master level.

Justification

This course is required for Automotive Service Excellence (A.S.E.) certification and ASE Education Foundation accreditation. It is approved by the program advisory committee. It is a core course for the Automotive Technology AAS degree, TE certificate, and certificates of proficiency.

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Students will be able to safely perform the tasks listed in the current edition of the ASE Education Foundation Certification and Accreditation for Automobile Training Programs.
  2. Students will gain and demonstrate a basic knowledge of steering angles; i.e., Caster, Camber, Toe, etc.
  3. Students will be able to recognize and use the appropriate specialized tools and equipment to diagnose and repair suspension and steering systems.
  4. Students will properly complete a 4-wheel alignment on a vehicle, taking measurements and making adjustments.
  5. Students will maintain a reasonably clean work environment.

Course Content

• Maintain vehicle safety through safe suspension and steering maintenance and repairs.• Identify and repair automotive steering and suspension systems.• Identify the issues with and perform an automotive wheel alignment.• Identify and repair automotive wheels and tires.
