About
I love learning about how life works, especially at the level that I cannot see. I am amazed at how chemicals work together in cells to allow for life. I first recognized my passion for biology and chemistry during high school. I continued to learn more as I furthered my education. After taking an undergraduate biochemistry class and lab, I decided to pursue a doctorate degree in biochemistry. During my graduate studies, I researched CRISPR systems. These are protein and RNA based systems used by bacteria and archaea to stop phage (viruses that infect bacteria and archaea). CRISPR has also been coopted by scientists as gene editing tools, revolutionizing gene modification technologies.
I began teaching at Snow College in 2021. I love this job because I get to continue learning about how life works AND I get to share what I know with students.
