I have 20+ years of professional work experience as a civil and structural engineer working on projects and I have been working in the Civil Engineering Industry since 1990. Project sizes have varied from a single 200 square foot well house facility to $100 Million commercial retail projects. My engineering experience includes commercial building design, higher education facility design, residential development, healthcare facilities, industrial facilities and municipal facilities. I have had experience as a staff engineer, lead engineer, project manager, division manager and owners representative and I have had the pleasure of hiring, training and mentoring dozens of engineers throughout my career.
Since switching to academics in 2019, I have enjoyed bringing my real-world experience to the classroom, and using practical examples from projects to teach and reinforce concepts of engineering. I love interacting with students and helping them to learn creative problem solving skills, and to know the difference between a good engineer and a great engineer. College is a time for students to prepare to enter the work force, not only with technical engineering knowledge and problem solving skills, but also with interpersonal skills, time management skills, self-management and motivation, and professionalism skills. I enjoy bringing lesson about all these skills to the classroom and helping students to be well prepared for their first internship as well as their first professional full-time job. I strive to be the best at what I do and I have been fortunate to have been recognized with various awards in the engineering industry as well as academics, including the 2022 Best In State award for best higher education professor in Utah.
