Class Description:
Capoeira is a vibrant Brazilian art form that blends martial arts, dance, music and cultural expression. It was developed in the 16th century by slaves in Brazil as a way to preserve their identity, resist oppression and build community. Disguised as a dance, Capoeira became a powerful symbol of resilience, freedom and creativity. Today Capoeira is practiced all over the world and celebrated for its dynamic movement, acrobatic flow, and uplifting rhythms. Players gather in a circle called the "roda", taking turns engaging in a playful, strategic exchange of kicks, dodges and sweeps, all guided by live music. The traditional instruments—which the students will also learn—set the rhythm and create an immersive, energetic atmosphere.
All ages are welcome to this family friendly sport! Students will learn coordination, agility, balance, increase in strength, aerobatics, calisthenics and simple acrobatics suited to their level, all the while being culturally expanded and have fun learning aspects of self-defense in a safe, non-combative environment.
