Class Description:
Capoeira is a vibrant Brazilian art form that blends martial arts, dance, music and cultural expression. It was developed in the 16th century by slaves in Brazil as a way to preserve their identity, resist oppression and build community. Disguised as a dance, capoeira became a powerful symbol of resilience, freedom and creativity. Today Capoeira is practiced all over the world and celebrated for its dynamic movement, acrobatic flow, and uplifting rhythms. Players gather in a circle called the "roda", taking turns engaging in a playful, strategic exchange of kicks, dodges and sweeps, all guided by live music. The traditional instruments—which the students will also learn—set the rhythm and create an immersive, energetic atmosphere.
