Course Description
This course provides students with individual guitar instruction. Private instruction is required of music majors each semester in college. This course is repeatable for credit. This course is available to non music majors subject to the instructor's availability. Music majors should enroll in 1 hour private lessons, and non-music majors should enroll in 1/2 hour private lessons.
Justification
Private applied instruction in a student's primary voice or instrument is required of all music majors.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Students will demonstrate an understanding of fingerboard theory appropriate for second year study.
- Students will demonstrate guitar technique appropriate for second year study.
- Students will demonstrate an ability to accurately read at sight materials appropriate for first year study including standard notation and tablature.
- Students will demonstrate an ability to improvise over ii-V-I changes.
- Students will demonstrate an ability to transpose all assigned work into other keys.
- Students will demonstrate authentic stylistic command of all assigned materials.
