Course Description

This course provides students with private guitar instruction. Private instruction is required for music majors each semester. This course develops and improves a student's technical, interpretive, improvisational, pedagogical, and sight reading skills. Private lessons at the 3000 and 4000 level are available only to students who have matriculated into the bachelor of music degree program.

Justification

Music degrees at every USHE institution require private instruction each semester.

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Students will demonstrate technique acceptable for third year study.
  2. Students will demonstrate an understanding of fingerboard theory acceptable for third year study.
  3. Students will demonstrate an ability to construct four note chord voicings of extended harmonic structures at all positions on the neck.
  4. Students will demonstrate an ability to read from sight both melodically and harmonically from jazz standards.
  5. Students will demonstrate authentic performances in rock, country, rhythm and blues, folk, and jazz styles.
  6. Students will demonstrate an ability to create characteristic guitar tones.
