This course is to be taken in the final year of residence before graduation. Students will demonstrate through performance of a varied repertoire their ability to synthesize and artistically render musical knowledge and skills gained through private and ensemble study as well as theoretical and historical coursework. Students not pursuing the performance advisement track may opt to complete a senior project in production or composition.
This course allows the music faculty to assess the musical skills acquired by students across all four years of the degree program. This course is a requirement to graduation in the bachelor of music degree.
Typically, the senior recital consists of a program of at least 40-45 minutes of music, displaying a level of performance, literature, and the synthesis of skills appropriate to a candidate for a professional degree in music at the baccalaureate level. Students in a performance advisement track must successfully perform a senior recital prior to graduation. Students pursuing the music technology/production, or the songwriting/composition advisement tracks may complete a senior project equivalent in rigor to a senior recital. Students must obtain approval from a panel of three music faculty members prior to preparing the recital or project. Following the recital, or submission of the project, the faculty panel must approve the performance or project before graduation can be posted.
