Course Description

This course involves participation in ensemble performances supporting Snow College athletic events. This course is repeatable for credit.

Justification

Students in this ensemble help provide the Snow College student body with a collegiate experience by contributing to the celebratory atmosphere of college athletic events. Most institutions in Utah offer students a pep band experience. This group serves all students who wish to play, regardless of technical facility.

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Upon completion of each semester of this course, students will be able to accurately perform the rhythms, melodies and harmonies of the music selected by the director
  2. The student will perform essential skills as part of a section, including, proper intonation blend and balance and show improvement in both speed and accuracy of literature learning as measured by small group assessment.
  3. The student will understand the music in its historical setting as well as the stylistic, expressive, and formal qualities associated with the particular era of music history.
  4. The student will communicate the understanding which they have gained to their audiences.

Course Content

Members of the ensemble will learn and perform appropriate literature as selected by the instructor. Content includes study of:
• Intonation
• Balance
• Blend
• Articulation
• Historical Context
• Performance Practice
