Course Description

This course includes a study of serious wind ensemble literature. Concerts are performed each semester as part of the course. An audition is required. (Repeatable for Credit)

Justification

This group provides students with an opportunity to study significant literature for wind ensemble. Through preparation and performance of quality band literature, students enrolled in this course will develop an understanding and appreciation for the various styles of wind literature. Most four-year institutions in Utah offer a band experience. Snow College ensemble credits transfer without difficulty. Students wishing to continue band at a four-year institution must develop competitive performance skills while at Snow College.

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Students will accurately perform literature selected by the instructor in regularly scheduled concerts. They will understand this literature with respect to historical context as demonstrated by accurate performance. They will communicate that understanding to their audience in concert.
  2. Students will master the technical demands of the music selected for them, appropriate to college level work.
  3. Students will master the expressive demands of the music selected for them, appropriate to college level work.

Course Content

Music from all stylistic periods of legitimate band repertoire will be studied, practiced, rehearsed and performed. Proper instrumental technique will be stressed.
