This is the second semester of a two semester sequence providing music majors with a foundational understanding in the history and development of Western art music. It will cover music throughout history and the relationship of music to the other arts. This course includes the chronological study of music in the Contemporary Period (Twentieth Century) and from Antiquity through the Baroque period. This is the continuation course to MUSC 3630.
This course is required for all music majors pursuing a Bachelor of Music degree at Snow College and is a necessary prerequisite for students transferring to another four year program at any of the state's universities. The Horne School of Music at Snow College is an accredited member of The National Association of Schools of Music (NASM). Course content will include the study of a music history text, musical scores, and audio examples. The course will focus on the major styles, influential composers, and music's role in human culture. This course includes the chronological study of music from the Contemporary Period (Twentieth Century) and Antiquity through the Baroque period.
