I grew up in Southern California and studied mathematics at Brigham Young University. After graduating from BYU, I was hired to teach math at Utah Valley University, where I stayed for two years, and I met and married my wife, Emily.
Emily and I own twelve chickens and three colonies of bees. My wife is a reporter for KSL covering health, religion, and court cases. She is a Brandon Sanderson fan and she introduced me to The Stormlight Archives and Mistborn; we are currently reading Tress of the Emerald Sea.
One of the things my wife and I have in common is marching band. My wife played clarinet in the American Fork Marching Band, and her brothers and sisters played various instruments in that band too. I played tuba in the Brigham Young University Marching Band.
