The Snow College Threat Assessment Team is a multidisciplinary group dedicated to promoting campus safety, well-being, and readiness. The team proactively identifies, evaluates, and addresses behaviors of concern to reduce risk and support individuals in need, while upholding students’ rights and privacy. The team includes the Chief of Police, the Dean of Students, the Director of Risk Management, and the Wellness Center Director.
The Snow College Threat Assessment Team utilizes the threat assessment framework created in 2001 by Professor Dewey Cornell of the University of Virginia. Cornell led a team of educators and researchers to develop practical, effective guidelines for colleges responding to threats of violence. This model, the Comprehensive School Threat Assessment Guidelines (CSTAG), has been rigorously evaluated in controlled studies and large-scale implementation studies involving thousands of schools across multiple states. In 2013, it became the only threat assessment model recognized as an evidence-based practice by the National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices. Over the past 20+ years, CSTAG has been widely disseminated in the United States and Canada.
