Service learning allows students to learn some of a course’s subject matter in the “real world.” Part of the course requirements ask students to meet community needs and then apply those experiences to classroom topics. Students study communications by collecting oral histories, study how literature communicates by reading to elementary school students, or study early childhood development by working in a daycare facility. The service learning courses provide credit like any other course, but they allow students to learn in a more interactive environment.
Snow offers special service learning sections of many GE and major courses. Students with a particular interest in service learning can earn the Service Scholar Award.
If you have questions about the Service Scholar Award or current SL course offerings, visit the SAGE Center or contact the Service Learning Director.
