Human Development and Family Relations

Main Image

As a part of the Human Development program at Snow College, students learn skills for helping and understanding individuals, families, or groups. This is achieved through studying biological and theoretical approaches across the lifespan, as well as experiencing observational and hands-on learning with children in a laboratory setting. In addition to examining specific problems and phenomena, students learn how human service agencies and professionals deal with human development-related issues.

A wide variety of careers are available in the field of human development and family studies, including:

  • Social Work
  • Children, youth, and family services worker
  • Marriage and Family Therapist
  • School Psychologist
  • Rehabilitation Counselor

In addition to our associate degree and associate of applied science degree, Snow College also offers two Human Development and Family Relations certificates:

  • Family Life Certificate of Proficiency: This two-semester program offers practical and theoretical training for the student desiring to be successful in home and family settings. A total of 28 credits are required.
  • Human Services Certificate of Proficiency: This two-semester program will prepare students to work as a para-professional in the fields of social work, geriatrics, health care, rehabilitation, and other human-service related agencies. A total of 28 credits are required.
