In this workshop, participants will learn the gum bichromate printing process, a historic photographic method that creates hardened gum layers, resulting in a one-of-a-kind full color image. We will guide you through creating negatives, preparing and sizing paper, mixing gum dichromate with water color pigments, exposing your image to UV light, and developing your print. You will learn how to brush on each color layer that will be exposed separately with its own corresponding color-separated negative to create unique, hand-crafted prints. The workshop also covers the history of the process and its applications in fine art photography. With plenty of individual time for refining and hands-on instruction, you’ll leave with several finished prints and a good understanding of the process. No prior experience required—just bring a willingness to learn and be ready to print some of your favorite images.
