Sketching Abound: Bookbinding and Sketchbook Practices

Plan creative structures into your sketchbooks. Learn the basics of repurposing books and using case-binding skills in building your own sketchbooks. This course teaches the art of bookbinding combined with big ideas to inform your sketchbook practices. Based on the perspectives of local artists, a variety of fun, strange, magical, logical and/or nonsensical formal sketchbook practices will be demonstrated and practiced.

Biography

Abe Kimball and his family live in the mountains of central Utah. He is dedicated to teaching art in public schools and Snow College. Abe was raised observing various artists, especially his artist-father from whom he learned the craft of lithography. He received printer training at Tamarind Institute and at Brigham Young University where he was also introduced to bookbinding and conservation through employment at the Harold B. Lee Library where he also received degrees in visual art and sociocultural anthropology.
