Pane Relief: Stained Glass from Roman Mosaics to Tiffany Sparkle

This intensive workshop introduces participants to the fundamentals of stained-glass design and construction, compressing the essentials of a university-level semester into a week-long immersive learning experience. Students will explore three major traditions: the precision of Roman-style mosaic, the delicacy of Tiffany-style copper foil construction, and the bold strength of medieval leaded glass. We’ll begin with design principles which help transform ideas into workable patterns, then move into cutting, assembling, and finishing techniques. Each approach highlights different materials, tools, and artistic possibilities, giving participants a broad foundation in this rarified craft. Emphasis will be placed on safety, craftsmanship, and how these historical techniques continue to inspire contemporary design. No prior experience is required—only curiosity and a willingness to learn. By the end of the workshop, each student will have completed several projects and gained a new appreciation for this luminous and historical art form.

Studio Fee: $125
